Moldova’s Radu Albot upset top seed Denis Shapovalov 6-2 6-4 in the second round of the Sofia Open to reach his second ATP Tour quarter final of the season. Albot dropped the first matches of the 2020 season.
Albot won 86 % of his first serve points and fended off the two break points he faced.
The Moldovan player broke in the sixth and eighth games of the first set and in the tenth game of the second set.
Shapovalov was aiming to reach his sixth quarter final of the season and finish the season inside the top 10 in the year-end ATP Ranking.
Albot set up a match against either Adrian Mannarino or Egor Gerasimov.
Vasek Pospisil got through.to the quarter final with his 6-3 6-4 win over Jan Lennard Struff with a break in the fourth game and another in the first game of the second set.
The Canadian player set up a quarter final against this year’s Nur Sultan champion John Millman or Frenchman Gilles Simon.
