Seventh seeds Edouard Roger Vasselin and Jurgen Melzer have advanced to their first semifinal at the Nitto ATP Finals as a team at the O2 Arena in London after Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos withdrew from the match during the tie-break of the opening set at 6-6 (1-0).
Roger Vasselin and Zeballos needed to win in straight sets to secure their spot in the semifinal.
Granollers and Zeballos earned an early break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. Melzer and Roger Vasselin broke back to draw level to 5-5, as Granollers and Zeballos were serving for the first set.
Granollers suffered a shoulder injury that required a medical time-out. The Spaniard retired from the match after the first point of the tie-break. Roger Vasselin and Melzer took the top spot of the Group Bob Bryan. Granollers and Zeballos also qualified for the semifinals as they ranked second in their round-robin group.
