Danil Medvedev came back from one set down in his 5-7 6-2 6-2 win over Alex De Minaur to reach the quarter final at the Paris Rolex Masters in Paris Bercy.
Medvedev earned an immediate break in the opening game to open up a 3-1 lead, but De Minaur broke back to love in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Both players went on serve until the 12th game when De Minaur sealed the opening set with a break at 15.
Medvedev broke in the first and fifth games to open up a 4-1 lead and wrapped up the second set with his ninth ace. The world number 5 broke twice in the third and fifth games and secured his spot in the quarter final with an ace. The Russian player will face Diego Schwartzman in the quarter final.
“I felt like I wasn’t playing bad in the first set, but he was playing good also. I was up a break, but I did not manage to keep up the momentum. He came back and was a little bit on fire, so he took the first set. The second and third sets were the same scenario. I broke early in the set and then I was really stronger than in the first set on my serve, so I put a lot of pressure on him and I got more confident because I knew that on my serve I know what to do so I could put a little bit more on the return, start to get in on the second serve and stuff like this, so I think it’s all about the small details”, said Medvedev.
Milos Raonic beat Marcos Giron 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 in a North American third round clash. Giron saved a break point in each of the fourth and tenth games of the first set. Both players went on serve in the next games en route to the tie-break. Raonic earned three mini-breaks to win the tie-break 7-1. The Canadian player broke twice in the third and fifth games to cruise through to a 6-2 win in the second set.
