This year’s Australian Open Sofia Kenin in her 2-6 6-2 6-1 win over Fiona Ferro from France on Court Phillippe Chatrier to secure her spot in the Roland Garros quarter finals.
Kenin has reached her third quarter final and the second quarter final of her career in a Grand Slam tournament.
Ferro entered the match with a 18-match winning streak, that includes the Palermo Ladies Open title.
Kenin started the match with an early break at love in the first game to open up a 2-0 lead, but Ferro saved two break points in the third game before winning six consecutive games with three breaks to clinch the first set 6-2.
Both players traded breaks in the first two games of the second set. Kenin broke twice in a row in the third and fifth games to open up a 5-1 lead and served out to win the second set 6-2 sending the match to the third set.
Kenin went up a double break to race out to a 4-0 lead in the third set. Ferro saved five break points to hold her serve at deuce in the fifth game for 1-4. Kenin closed out the third set with a break at love in the seventh game. The young US player hit 39 winners in the match.
Kenin bounced back from a first round defeat against Victoria Azarenka in Rome last month.
Kenin will face either Ons Jabeur or US Danielle Collins.
