Stan Wawrinka scored his 150th win at a Grand Slam tournament by beating Rome Masters 1000 Dominik Koepfer from Germany 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-1 after 2 hours and 8 minutes on Court Suzanne Lenglen to reach the third round at Roland Garros.
Wawrinka saved four break points in the fifth game and held his serve to take a 3-2 lead. The Swiss player won seven games from 3-3 with a break in the eighth game of the first set to build up a 4-0 lead. Wawrinka held on his service games without facing break points to win the second set 6-2.
Koepfer did not convert three break points in the third game of the third set before breaking serve in the eighth game to take a 5-3 lead after consecutive forehand errors from Wawrinka. Koepfer closed out the third set with a big serve. Wawrinka broke tiwce in a row to race out to a 5-0 lead and closed out the fourth set at deuce with a forehand after saving two break points.
Wawrinka beat Novak Djokovic to win the 2015 Roland Garros title and lost the 2017 final against Rafael Nadal.
The Swiss player claimed an ATP Challenger in Prague and only an ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.
