The organizers of the BMW Munich Open had to cancel their tournament that should have taken place in the final week of April, but they hope to hold it later this year, if the season resumes.
“Dear friends of the BMW Open ! We would like to inform you about the current status of the 2020 season of our tournament. With the recent decision of the Federal Government to cancel major events by 31 August 2020, we will once again intensify the previous exchange with the ATP with the aim of getting clarity as soon as possible about the extent to which, above all from the point of view of health for you as the audience, the players and the entire organization, it is possible, sensible and correct to carry out the BMW Open this year or not. Should we receive an appointment for 2020 and consider it to be correct and consider this immediately and the tickets you have already purchased will remain valid for the day of the round in question. In this case, you can also decide whether you want to redeem your ticket at the new date or whether your ticket should be rebooked for the the coming year”.
The list of past winners of the Munich tournament features big names like Guillermo Vilas, Manuel Orantes, Ivan Lendl, Michael Lendl, Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko, Tommy Haas, Phillip Kohlschreiber, Alexander Zverev (winner in 2017 against Guido Pella and 2018 against Phillip Kohlschreiber). Christian Garin beat Matteo Berrettini in last year’s Munich final. The tournament has been held at the Iphitos Tennis Club since 1974.
