Thiago Seyboth Wild spoke about his recent triumph in Santiago de Chile during an interview to Tenis Brazil. Earlier this year the Brazilian 19-year-old player beat Casper Ruud in three sets in the final at Santiago de Chile becoming the youngest tennis player to win a title on the Latin American clay court since Rafael Nadal won in Acapulco in 2005 at the age of 18. Wild climbed up 69 positions in the ATP Ranking reaching a career-high ATP ranking of number 113, becoming the second highest ranked player in Brazil. He also saved three match points in Rio de Janeiro first round against Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina after 3 hours and 50 minutes in the second round in the longest ATP Tour match of 2020 before losing to Borna Coric in the second round.
“It was a surprise, not only for everyone, but for my team and me as well. It was a goal that I had, but I had not expect it to happen so quickly. I like to play on the fast court, because my style of play fits more. The points are a little bit shorter and I can attack a little more. I have been working a lot. Despite being at a good level, in order to move up to in the ranking I need to get better and better and have greater consistency in the second service. ”, said Seyboth Wild.
Seyboth Wild made his Davis Cup debut earlier this month against Australia.
“I was able to adapt well to the time zone, because I got there very tired from travelling and I managed to sleep at night. I was able to adapt well to the time zone, because I got there very tired from travelling and managed to sleep at night. In the first two days it was not so much of a problem, but in the game the adrenaline is so high that yu don’t even feel the sleep. I think that withstanding the pressure is something that every athlete who stands out needs to know how to do. We need to deal with pressure and expectations. It is the result of the work I am doing with the psychologist. Not only that part but the extra-court part too”, said Seyboth Wild.
Thiago began playing tennis at the age of four because his father played too. His father Claudio Ricardo Wild manages tennis academies. His mother Gisela Christina Christine Seyboth is a doctor. His favourite surface is clay and admires Rafael Nadal growing up.
