Great Britain’s Dan Evans cruised past Alexander Bublik 7-5 6-2 to book his spot in the quarter final at the Adelaide International.
Evans broke serve in the ninth game to take a 5-4 lead in the first set, but he missed a chance to serve out the first set at 5-4, as Bublik broke straight back to draw level to 5-5. Evans converted his third break point chance in the 11th game to take a 6-5 lead and served out the first set in the next game to close out the first set 7-5.
Evans broke twice in the first and fifth games to win the second set 6-2. The British player won three of his four singles matches and beat Alex De Minaur in the quarter finals at last week’s ATP Cup. Evans will face either last week’s Doha Qatar Open champion Andrey Rublev or Sam Querrey.
Jan Lennard Struff eased past Salvatore Caruso 6-4 6-2 setting up a match against Australia’s Alex Bolt, who edged past French lucky loser Stephane Robert 6-4 2-6 6-0 after 1 hour and 33 minutes. Tommy Paul saw off Aljaz Bedene 6-4 6-4. Albert Ramos Vinolas overcame Jordan Thompson 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 setting up a match against Spain’s Jaume Munar.
