Vedran Martic has been named the new Davis Cup captain of the Croatian team. Martic previously coached Goran Ivanisevic and guided Karen Khachanov to three titles in 2017 in Marseille, Moscow and Paris Bercy. He also coached Petra Martic, Anke Huber and Natalia Medvedeva.
Long-time captain Zeljko Krajan was dismissed just a few days before the Davis Cup Final in Madrid and was replaced by Franko Skugor, who acted as playing captain in Madrid. Croatia did not get through the round robin group stage after losing their ties against Russia and Spain.
Martic will start his coaching guide next March in the first round of the Davis Cup qualifying round against India. The winner of this tie will secure a spot in the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid next November.
The New Davis Cup captain will have the task to prepare Croatian players for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and follow the preparation of young tennis players in Croatia.
