Karolina Pliskova has hired Dani Vallverdu as her new coach ahead of the 2020 season, with Olga Savchuk joining the coaching staff.
The world number two won four titles last season in Brisbane, Rome, Eastbourne and Zhengzhou but once again failed to make a breakthrough at the grand slams.
As a result, Pliskova ended her cooperation with Conchita Martinez, who has now re-joined Garbine Muguruza’s team.
Today, though, the Czech Republican has announced Dani Vallverdu as her new coach, who has previously managed the careers of Tomas Berdych, Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Potro, Stan Wawrinka and Grigor Dimitrov.
After announcing the news, Pliskova couldn’t be more excited to start preparations, “He was one of my priorities from the beginning,” Pliskova said on her website.
“He’s had great results with his players, he understands tennis like hardly anyone else and I’m convinced he has a lot to offer to me. I’m already looking forward to the start of the preparation.”
This comes as shocking news as Vallverdu has never coached on the WTA tour and this is a new experience in a time where Pliskova is expected to peak at the big events.
Also on Pliskova’s website, the Venezuelan explained how he loves the idea of a challenge, “Karolína is a great player and I’m looking forward to working with her to help her reach her goals. WTA is something new for me, but I like challenges.”
With the help of Vallverdu, Karolina Pliskova aims for her maiden grand slam in 2020 as she starts her season in Brisbane on the 6th of January.
