Sam Querrey did not face a break point in his 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 7-6 (7-3) win over Grigor Dimitrov after 2 hours and 14 minutes at the Intrum Stockolm Open. The US player scored his first win in four head-to-head matches.

Dimitrov saved the only break point chance of the first set in the third game. Both players went on serve with no breaks setting up a tie-break. The Bulgarian player earned four set points at 6-2 but Querrey saved them to draw level to 6-6. Dimitrov won three of the next four points to win the tie-break 9-7.

Querrey got the only break of the match in the sixth game to win the second set 6-3. Dimitrov fended off a break point in the ninth game of the third set, which came down to the third set. Querrey cruised to a 5-0 lead en route to winning the tie-break 7-3.

Querrey will face either Chengdu champion Pablo Carreno Busta or luck loser Gianluca Mager.

“It was a close match. A lot of times in these matches it is just a couple of points here and there. That is what it was today”, said Querrey.

Yoshihito Nishioka converted four of his five break points in his 7-5 6-4 win over Taylor Fritz to advance to his third quarter final of this season. Fritz broke serve to take a 5-3 lead, but Nishioka came back by winning six consecutive games to build up a 2-0 lead in the second set. Nishioka broke for the second time to take a 4-1 lead. Fritz pulled back one of the two breaks in the eighth game, but Nishioka sealed the win on his first match point.

“I am playing very good tennis now. I think my best tennis, so I am very happy for that”, said Nishioka.

Swedish wild card Mikael Ymer broke serve six games in his 7-5 6-4 win over Joao Sousa setting up a second round match against Cedrik Marcel Stebe.
