Novak Djokovic downed Kyle Edmund 7-6(7) 6-1 to reach the Paris quarter-finals and set up a rematch with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Serb boosted his chances of finishing the year world number one by reaching the last eight in Paris with a straight sets win over Kyle Edmund.
Before this tournament, Edmund had been on an eight match losing streak but back-to-back wins over Ricardas Berankis and Diego Schwartzman had given him confidence.
However the Wimbledon champion proved too much for the Brit as he cruised to victory in the second set after a tight opening set.
Winning 89% of his first service points helped Djokovic to victory despite the top seed feeling unwell this week as he prepares to play an 11th consecutive ATP quarter-final.
Speaking after the match, Djokovic seemed more pleased with this victory than the win against Moutet, “It was good. I wasn’t really feeling comfortable in the first set,” Djokovic explained.
“It was a bit like yesterday (against Moutet). I hope to be better in the next match.”
Next for Djokovic, will be a Shanghai rematch with Stefanos Tsitsipas after the Greek defeated Alex De Minaur 6-3 6-4.
On that occasion it was Tsitsipas who was victorious so the Serb will be looking for a much better performance and result in his bid for year-end world number.
Also in Paris there was a convincing win for Grigor Dimitrov as he trounced Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-2 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Cristian Garin.
The Chilean managed to reach his maiden Masters 1000 quarter-final after edging Jeremy Chardy 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(6) in a dramatic contest.
