Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah have reflected on their ‘unreal’ journey in the last three months after winning the US Open title.
The Colombian duo claimed the US Open title after beating Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 6-4 7-5 in front of an electric pro-Colombian Arthur Ashe stadium.
Yesterday’s triumph capped off a remarkable last three months for the top seeds, who also won the Wimbledon title, which was their first grand slam title of their career.
After the match Cabal admitted the last few months have been hard to believe after an incredible journey to get to the top, “Unreal. It’s amazing. What a journey. If you tell us three months ago that this is going to happen, I probably will not believe you,” the Colombian admitted.
“But that’s the way, this life that we are pretty blessed. We thank God to give us that we are healthy. We have a great team behind us that let us play, be 100% every day to play. We just put the work. Every day we just believe in work, push every day to be better.”
Not only has the last few months meant a lot to Cabal and Farah themselves but this win has meant a lot to Colombian tennis and Colombia.
Just after their five set triumph at Wimbledon over Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, the Colombian duo recieved a hero’s welcome in their home country.
Robert Farah revealed yesterday how insane their reception home was, “I arrived to Bogota, and I kept saying to the Colombian media I felt like Shakira felt for, like, two hours, because you come out and there is all these journalists, and everyone’s coming and they’re chanting “Colombia, Colombia,” and there is a bunch of flags in the airport. I wasn’t expecting that, and it was crazy.”
Now the duo will look to end an incredible season in style as they are the only team confirmed for the ATP World Tour Finals in November.
They will then represent their country at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid as more history is looking to be made for their country.
