Elina Svitolina is feeling excited ahead of the US hard court swing as she moved into the Quarter-Finals in San Jose.
The Ukrainian made a positive start to her US hard court swing after thrashing Daria Kasatkina 6-3 6-1 to reach the San Jose Quarter-Finals.
In her first match back since reaching the Wimbledon Semi-Finals, Svitolina wasted no time in getting back to winning ways as she broke the Russian five times.
After the convincing win, Svitolina was pleased with her solid start as she looks forward to preparing for the US Open, “I think I played quite a solid match for my first match on hardcourts,” Svitolina said in her on-court interview.
“We’re back on hardcourts, so I’m excited for all the matches here and overall this part of the season. I had to really fight for every point, and in the end I think I was more solid today.”
Next up for Svitolina is last year’s finalist and 7th seed Maria Sakkari and the Ukrainian is looking forward to Friday’s clash, “It’s a big honour to play here,” Svitolina said. “The atmosphere is very nice. I’m looking forward to my next round.”
The world number seven leads the head-to-head after winning their clash at Wimbledon a few weeks ago in three sets.
Should Svitolina win the title this week in California, it will be her first title since winning the biggest title of her career at the WTA Finals last October.
