Andy Murray has announced that he will return to singles competition in Cincinnati next week, after eight months absence from the singles game.
At the Australian Open at the start of the year, the Brit made an emotional announcement as he feared that he may never play tennis again.
A day that saw most people say their farewells to the three time grand slam champion and a respected British sporting legend.
Now after a hip resurfacing surgery, and a few tournaments playing doubles with Feliciano Lopez, Marcelo Melo and Pierre-Hughes Herbert, Murray will now return to the singles court.
That is because the Brit confirmed the news on Facebook as he feels comfortable to complete the next phase of his comeback to full-time competition.
The last match, Murray played in singles was when he lost in five sets to Roberto Bautista Agut in an electric atmosphere.
Now, the Brit will have no expectations as he looks to continue his rehabilitation and hopefully compete in grand slams from next year.
Next week will see not only Murray return but Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer return for the first time since their epic Wimbledon final.
The draw for the main draw of Cincinnati will take place at 11:30pm British time tonight.
