World number one Ash Barty has reflected on an incredible 2019 season so far as she looks ahead to the US Open.
The Australian has had quite the year after winning her first grand slam singles title in Paris this year. In addition she has become the new world number one and taken Australia to the Fed Cup final.
Now Barty looks ahead to the US Open as she reflected on an incredible 2019 so far, “It’s been just the most incredible journey for us and my team – it’s happened very quickly,” Barty said to reporters in Brisbane.
“We had plans and goals for this year to try and crack into that Top 10 and that was kind of the next level for me and then to be able to get to world number one so quickly has been incredible.
“We worked incredibly hard for it and enjoyed every single minute of it and now the challenge for us is to keep improving and try and stay there as long as we can.”
Despite having the taste of success Barty is still determined to create more Australian history as her drive and determination remains, “I’m more driven and more and more hungry than ever to try and get better – there are still so many players out there that I want to beat.”
The 23 year-old was speaking in Brisbane, where she announced she will start her 2020 season and Barty is definitely looking forward to playing at home again, “I’m so excited to come back here and play in 2020,”She explained.
“It’ll be home in my own bed, playing in my backyard, and I can’t wait for hopefully a really full crowd and see lots of kids out here.”
Next for Barty is the Rogers Cup in Toronto as she prepares for the final grand slam of the year at the US Open, where she reached the fourth round in singles and won the doubles title with Coco Vandeweghe.
The Rogers Cup begins on the 5th of August.
