Novak Djokovic surged into the second week after a comfortable 6-3 6-3 6-2 win over Salvatore Caruso.
The world number one didn’t drop a set all week as he stormed into the second week with a comfortable win over the Italian qualifier.
After a solid start, Caruso couldn’t consistently outhit the Serb as he was left frustrated on a hot day in Paris as both players struggled with the heat.
Next up for Djokovic is either Jan-Lennard Struff or Borna Coric.
In the early stages, Caruso proved why he had already won five matches, including qualifying, at Roland Garros this week as his powerful game caused frustration for Djokovic.
However just having a powerful game isn’t enough when you play the 15 time grand slam champion and the Serb took his opportunity to break for a 3-1 lead.
That was the only break in the opening set as it was Caruso who started to threaten a break with some powerful forehands and great returning.
Four break points came and went for the Italian as it was the top seed who took the first set 6-3 in 47 minutes as he neutralised the early storm.
The second set was much better for the 2016 champion, who protected his serve better and was working the angles when it mattered most.
Breaks in the fifth and ninth game was enough for Djokovic to take a two set lead as his movement looked good despite having problems with the heat.
After saving break point in the first game, Djokovic steadied the momentum of the match as Caruso still managed to serve well.
But two late breaks sealed a very impressive first week for the Serb as he is now on a 24 match winning streak at grand slams.
24 consecutive wins at Slams… and counting?
