Serena Williams stormed past Japanese qualifier Kurumi Nara 6-3 6-2 to reach the third round at Roland Garros.

The 23 grand slam champion looked much more comfortable than her opening round as cruised past the Japanese qualifier in 67 minutes.

A solid match from Serena means that she is through to the third round where compatriot Sofia Kenin awaits on Saturday.

Meanwhile the teenagers of the draw continue to rise as Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek both beat top 20 opponents to progress to the last 32.

It was a competitive start to the match from the world number 238, who looked nothing like her ranking as she tested Serena’s returning ability.

As for the 23 time grand slam champion, she looked much more dialled in then her opening match as she displayed her powerful first serve.

After saving six break points in a long service hold, Nara failed to test the former world number one as Serena dictated the match to her rhythm.

A run of three games sealed a rather competitive opening set for the world number 10 in 38 minutes.

The second set was dominated by Serena as she looked much more relaxed and fitter than a couple of days ago, where she was struggling.

A final game that saw three aces sealed a win for a happier Serena Williams as she advanced to the third round without too much fuss.

Next up for the experienced American is her compatriot Sofia Kenin, who would have had extra rest after Bianca Andreescu’s withdrawal yesterday.

Teenagers Thrive In Paris

Meanwhile the teenagers continue to make a name for themselves in Paris as Amanda Anisimova and Iga Swiatek both went through to the third round.

In Anisimova’s case, she beat 10th seed Aryna Sabalenka for the second consecutive grand slam after a 6-4 6-2 victory.

The Bogota champ managed to neutralise the powerful Belarusian in an ice-cool display from the 17 year-old, who now plays Irina-Camelia Begu.

While Swiatek, who won the Wimbledon juniors, dominated 16th seed Qiang Wang 6-3 6-0 to set up a third round meeting with either Daria Kasatkina or Monica Puig.
