After the match Kerber said that she is feeling good and comfortable after another good week, “I feel really good here. I feel so welcome, and to be here for so many years, it’s always great,” she explained to wtatennis.com.
“Returning to a place where you feel so comfortable, it’s always great. I enjoy my time on and off the court. I was just trying to play my game and it’s great to be in the semi-finals here again.”
The Wimbledon champion is on the hunt for her first title of the season in Monterrey as she reaches the semi-finals to play a former world number one Victoria Azarenka.
Despite some recent inconsistent form in singles, Azarenka has thrived in doubles and this week is evidence of how that’s helped her game.
In her 6-0 6-4 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Azarenka displayed great confidence as she broke six teams to reach the last four.
After her contest, Azarenka said she is ready for another great battle with Kerber in the semis, “We’ve had quite a few battles in the past, and it’s never easy, so I’m looking forward to see where my level is at, and to try to do my best.”
The other semi-final in Monterrey will see defending champion Garbine Muguruza take on Magdalena Rybarikova as they both secured wins in straight sets.
It was a 6-4 6-4 win for Rybarikova over Saschia Vickery while Muguruza defeated Kristina Mladenovic 6-1 7-6(5) to reach back-to-back Monterrey semis.
A fascinating day of Monterrey semi-finals await with the first one starting at 2pm with the battle between Kerber and Azarenka taking place at 5pm local time.
