Stefanos Tsitsipas is looking to earn an ‘important’ title in Marseille after beating David Goffin 7-6(1) 6-2 in the semi-finals.
After ten consecutive holds of serve in the first set, Goffin had the chance to serve the set out as he broke for a 6-5 lead.
However the Greek star broke straight back and was dominant from that point onwards as he dominated the tiebreak 7-1.
The world number 12 powered to a double break lead and a place in the Marseille final in just 69 minutes where he will play Mikhail Kukushkin.
After his win, Tsitsipas hailed the importance of titles in his career and how much tomorrow’s potential victory will mean, “It is important to win titles. Titles mean a lot,” the Australian Open semi-finalist told atptour.com.
“[Titles] won’t come to you. You have to work hard to get them… There is no better feeling than winning a title. It feels amazing.”
The Greek is looking to win his second ATP title this week after winning Stockholm last year and praised his rhythm for today’s win, “I found my rhythm and I found my game when he served at 6-5. I felt comfortable on the returns and the momentum was on my side.”
He will now play Mikhail Kukushkin who ended the dream run of 20 year-old Ugo Humbert after winning 6-4 6-4 in just over an hour and a half.
After the match the Kazakh said he will relish being in just the fourth ATP final of his career, “To play in the final of an ATP Tour tournament is a big moment in my career,” Kukushkin explained.
“It is a big stage in my career… I am going to play against a very difficult opponent [in the final] and he is going to be the favourite, but I will just concentrate on my game. I am going to enjoy this moment, being in the final, and then let’s see what happens.”
The final will take place at 2pm local time.
