Despite press reports that seemed to indicate that Andy Murray had decided to undergo hip surgery in the next weeks, it appears that the former world n.1 has not made up his mind yet and has not made any plans.
Earlier on Friday a press release from the Open 13 Provence in Marseille had announced the withdrawal of Andy Murray from the ATP 250 tournament scheduled for the week commencing on 18th February saying that the Scottish player will have to undergo another surgery, although the wording was changed to “may have to undergo surgery again”.
However numerous reports on British media following the Open 13 Provence statement confirmed that Murray’s spokesperson insisted that a decision has not been made yet on whether a new operation is in the immediate future of the 3-time Major champion. Nonetheless, Murray is not expected to compete in any of the tournaments he was scheduled to take part in February (Marseille, Rotterdam and Dubai) due to his ongoing physical issues and is not known where or if he may return to the ATP Tour.
After his first-round loss at the Australian Open Andy Murray had confirmed that the current condition of his hip is incompatible with his role as a professional tennis player and that a new surgery would not guarantee his return to the tour. Before the first Major of the year, the Scottish player had declared his intention to play at Wimbledon one last time before retiring, but a new surgery would prevent him from playing for a very long time and most certainly now allow him to be at Wimbledon next July.
