Danielle Collins stunned Angelique Kerber as she beat the 2016 champion 6-0 6-2 to reach her first grand slam quarter-final at the Australian Open.
The American produced a stunning performance as she thrashed the world number two in 58 minutes as she sealed a place in the last eight.
It was the opposite for Kerber who had no rhythm and could barely get her forehand to work as the tournament favourite for many people crashed out.
As for Collins she won her first grand slam match just six days ago and will now play either Sloane Stephens or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Tuesday.
It was a performance full of stunning backhands and powerful play as she dominated Kerber from the baseline as the 2016 champion struggled.
A full plethora of unforced errors and double faults occurred for Kerber as she couldn’t process how badly she was playing on the faster Margaret Court Arena.
After the 20 minute mark the first set had passed the German by as she looked dejected and searched for some improvement in a bathroom break.
The second set saw some better level from Kerber as she looked animated and grabbed an early break as she looked to pull of a comeback.
However her serve failed time and time again today as Collins continued to pummel the ball for fast winners that flew past Kerber.
Frustrated at her forehand and overall play, the world number two admitted defeat as Collins served the match out for an incredible victory.
Having not won a grand slam match before this week and been two points from defeat against Julia Goerges in round one this is an incredible effort from Collins.
As for Kerber it was a poor performance matched with errors, faults and frustration as this result surely blows the bottom half of the women’s draw open.
Collins will now play Sloane Stephens or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last eight on Tuesday.
