A star-studded field has been announced for the 2019 edition of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle
Nine-time winner Roger Federer, 2018 Nitto ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev, 2018 Roland Garros finalist Dominic Thiem, 2018 US Open semifinalist Kei Nishikori and 2017 Next Gen ATP Finals champion Hyeon Chung have already committed to the next edition of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle from 15th to 23rd June 2019.
Federer holds the record for most overall titles with nine trophies in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. Croatia’s Borna Coric beat Federer in last year’s edition of the famous grass season, which traditionally starts two weeks before Wimbledon.
Dominic Thiem has recently said in a statement that he is aiming to win the Gerry Weber tournament. Last year the Austrian player lost in the first round, but he has a goord record in German grass tournaments, having won the Stuttgart Mercedes Cup in 2016 beating Martin Klizan in a straight-set final. That year he achieved his best result in Halle reaching the semifinal. He lost to eventual champion Florian Mayer, who went on to beat Alexander Zverev in the final
“I am dreaming of winning the Gerry Weber Open one day. I won the Stuttgart tournament on grass and reached the semifinal in Halle”, said Thiem.
