Ukrainian Twin Brothers Banned For Life Over ‘Multiple Match-Fixing’ Offences

The duo have been issued with a hefty fine that amounts to $500,000 when combined.

 The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) has handed twin brothers Gleb and Vadim Alekseenko a lifetime ban from Professional tennis concerning a series of match fixing-offences.

35-year-old Gleb and Vadim has been found guilty of breaching anti-corruption rules on numerous occasions at Futures tournaments across Europe. The investigation, which was adjudicated by Richard H McLaren, concluded that the brothers committed offences in Romania, Russia, Germany and Turkey between June 2015 and January 2016. Besides the ban, they have also been fined $250,000 each.

“The findings of guilt and imposition of the lifetime suspensions means that with immediate effect both players are prohibited from playing in or attending any sanctioned events organised or recognised by the governing bodies of the sport.” A statement from the TIU reads.

The offences they have been found guilty of is soliciting a third party to bet on the matches which they contrive the outcome of. Breaching the 2015 and 2016 Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme.

Both of the Alekseenko brothers are currently ranked outside of the world’s top 1000. Vadim has been ranked as high as 497th in the singles and 427th in doubles. He has won 12 Futures titles in doubles between 2008-2018. Meanwhile Gleb had a singles best of 609th, and won 10 Futures titles in doubles between 2008-2013.

For the avoidance of doubt, to solicit or facilitate to wager shall include, but not be limited to: display of live tennis betting odds on a Covered Person website; writing articles for a tennis betting publication or website; conducting personal appearances for a tennis betting company; and appearing in com.

D.1.d No Covered Person shall, directly or indirectly, contrive or attempt to contrive the outcome or any other aspect of any Event.
