The sixth day of the US Open saw second seed Roger Federer prevail against Nick Kyrgios in what was an eagerly anticipated match at Flushing Meadows.
The 20-time grand slam champion experienced little difficulty against the Australian as he cruised to a 6-4, 6-1, 7-5, victory. A performance that saw Federer hit 51 winners to only 24 unforced errors. Setting the Swiss player up with a showdown against Joao Sousa in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, Angelique Kerber became the latest high-profile casualty. The German crashed out to Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. As a result of the loss, defending champion Sloane Stephens is the only top five seed left in the women’s draw.
