World number nine, John Isner has revealed that he has many regrets over the last month including his Wimbledon semi-final loss to Kevin Anderson.

The American lost to Anderson in an epic battle last month in London, where he missed out on the opportunity to compete in his first grand slam final. The 33 year old lost 26-24 in the final set and in his pre-tournament press conference in Toronto, he explained some of his regrets about that match, “So had I, you know, been the winner on Friday, I would have been there and given it my all. I definitely would have taken to the court.”

The American also had another regret and that was participating at the Citi Open last week, where he lost to compatriot Noah Rubin, “I don’t think I was in good enough shape to play last week in D.C,” explained Isner. “You want to be in peak physical and mental shape coming into these two weeks, and, then there’s the US Open. So there’s something to be said about being rested.”

The American also spoke about the importance of getting more rest when you are older, “It’s very important to be rested. I chose not to play the warmup tournament for Wimbledon and just stayed back home for 11, 12 more days, and I think that ended up being a good decision. Especially when you get older like I am, it’s about, you know, not playing so many tournaments but being well-rested for the tournaments that you do play.”

The big serving American received a BYE in the first round and will play his first match on Wednesday afternoon against Frenchman, Pierre-Hughes Herbert.
