Reigning Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is the most talented player in the world, according to former World No. 4 Todd Martin.
By declaring Djokovic as the ‘best talent in the game’, two-time Grand Slam finalist Martin has put current Australian Open champion Roger Federer and Roland winner Rafael Nadal behind the Serbian in the pecking order.
Martin’s claims came after Djokovic captured his fourth Wimbledon title at the All England Club earlier this month. It was Djokovic’s 13th Grand Slam and it came after a year of struggles, including a surgery on his troublesome right elbow.
On the other hand, Swiss great Federer failed to defend his crown at SW19 after he was upset by lanky South African Kevin Anderson in a five-set marathon while 17-time Major champ Nadal was beaten by Djokovic in a pulsating semifinal encounter that lasted more than five hours.
And Martin believes Djokovic’s triumph at Wimbledon has certainly upped the stakes in the greatest of all time debate. In fact, he thinks Djokovic is a more gifted player than Federer and Nadal.
“Nice to see Novak back,” Martin told Yahoo.
“I think his dominance when he is right is just spectacular.
“I think he is the best talent in the game.
“Obviously, Roger (Federer) and Rafa (Nadal) had an amazing couple of years, but that has happened in the absence of the guy who had won four straight Grand Slam titles prior to that, so…”
