Former world No.3 Milos Raonic has declared that he is in a good physical shape going into the North American swing of the tour.
The Canadian world No.30 has once again been on the recovery road from injury. The latest issue to hit Raonic was a leg problem that he sustained during his quarter-final clash with John Isner at Wimbledon. Despite being only 27, Raonic has been hampered by a series of physical problems within the last two years. Including issues with his shoulder, knee, wrist, foot, hip and adductor.
“I guess it’s not the best thing, but I’ve had a lot of experience with it recently. I’ve sort of learned how to get past that and focus on things than matter.” Raonic said about his latest injury during an interview with CityNews.
Despite the setbacks, the Canadian No.2 is feeling positive heading into the Rogers Cup.It was at the tournament where he made his main draw debut on the ATP World Tour. Losing in the first round to Fernando Gonzalez back in 2009. In 2013 he reached his first Masters 1000 final at the tournament. Losing in straight sets to Rafael Nadal.
“I’m feeling good.” Raonic stated. “The body has healed up after Wimbledon. I’ve been able to put in a few days of training, my body has responded well and now I got a little bit more time to do a little training camp leading into the Rogers Cup.”
Hoping to get a boost from playing in his home country, Raonic has vowed to not treat the tournament any different to the others.
“I don’t change anything. I don’t stay anywhere familiar, I stay in a hotel. Have my team close by.All of these kind of things I would do if I was in any other city. These things don’t change.” He explained.
The Rogers Cup will get underway on August 6th at the Aviva Centre in Toronto. Germany’s Alexander Zverev is the defending champion. Nine out of the world’s top 10 players are set to play in the tournament. The only exception is Roger Federer, who decided to skip the event to ease pressure on his scheduling commitments.
