Angelique Kerber has expressed her happiness at her progress at Wimbledon as a fourth round meeting with Belinda Bencic awaits on Monday.
The world number 10 looked impressive on Centre Court as she dispatched Naomi Osaka 6-2 6-4 in 64 minutes to progress to the fourth round of Wimbledon. The 2016 champion broke three times and didn’t face a single break point as she made the second week of this year’s Wimbledon.
After the match, Kerber expressed her delight at her performance as she aims to win her third grand slam title, “Yeah, actually I’m happy how I played now the match against her,” Kerber explained. “For me it was important to play my game from the first point, to really be aggressive, have the tension on my side of the court, just trying to enjoying also the match on the Centre Court.”
The German will now play Belinda Bencic in round four after her win over Carla Suarez Navarro and Kerber had high praise for Bencic, “I mean, she’s always a fighter. I know her since, yeah, years. She’s coming back always,” Kerber said. “She’s serving good. It is always not easy to play against her. But I know what to expect. Like I said, we played a lot of matches. Now I will looking forward to playing against her again, first time on grass.”
The match will be an intriguing test for Kerber as Bencic has played amazing tennis as she has knocked out two seeds en route to the second week of Wimbledon.
