Out of nowhere world No.72 Marco Cecchinato finds himself in the semifinals of the French Open following his thrilling win over Novak Djokovic.
The 25-year-old is playing in the main draw of a grand slam for only the fifth time in his career. Prior to this year’s French Open, he had never won a single match at a major. Awaiting him in the semifinals will be Dominic Thiem, who has made it to the last four at the French Open for the third consecutive year. Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev in straight sets.
In the women’s draw, there will be a repeat of the women’s US Open final. Both Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys continued their dream runs to book a semifinal showdown. 10th seed Stephens crushed Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 6-1. Meanwhile, Keys encountered a bigger test against Yulia Putintseva. Eventually prevailing 7-6(5), 6-4.
