Marin Cilic has become the latest big name to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open after suffering a knee injury.
The world number four crashed out of the ATP 250 event in Istanbul yesterday after a comprehensive 6-4 6-2 defeat to Malek Jaziri. It now appears that the Croatian suffered a knee injury during the contest and will now skip this week’s tournament in Madrid in order to recuperate.
Cilic, who has recently become a husband, often suffers on the red dirt and suffered a similar injury in South America earlier in the season. The Australian Open finalist will now hope to recover in time for Rome, which occurs the week after Madrid, as he will be defending his Quarter-Final points that he won last year.
Meanwhile another player that will miss the Mutua Madrid Open is Spaniard David Ferrer after he became a father today. The world number 33 alongside his wife Marta had been expecting the baby ever since his Davis Cup heroics in Valencia in early April.

The Spaniard will now hope to get back into action in a few weeks time as he hopes to make a challenge for his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros next month.
