Former world number one, Ilie Nastase was arrested twice in six hours after drink-driving and being aggressive towards police officers.
The two incidents happened in Bucharest as the Romanian was caught drink-driving as well as refusing a breathalyser and he also went through a red light in traffic on a scooter. The first incident occurred at 4:45 in the morning when police officers saw the 71 year old visibly drunk while driving as they then proceeded to block his vehicle. The Romanian then refused to take a breathalyser test as officers then pursued to remove him from the vehicle and arrest him.
This kind of offence can see someone in a maximum of five years in jail as Nastase was later released while police officers began a formal investigation. However the Nastase chaos didn’t stop there as six hours later the former French Open champion drove through a red light on a scooter. As police went to arrest him for a second time he went ahead and mocked police officers as well as placing a police helmet on his own head.
The Romanian has had his driving licence taken away from him and been fined 253 dollars for his actions as he claims that police manhandled him. This isn’t the only time Nastase has been involved with controversy as last month he made some rude remarks towards Johanna Konta, Anne Keothavong as well as being racist to Serena William’s then unborn child.
