
World number six Juan Martin Del Potro has announced that he will start his clay court schedule at the Mutua Madrid Open, which starts on the 6th of May.
The Argentinian had originally said that he may not play any clay court events until Roland Garros and despite rumours he may play in Estoril the Indian Wells champion has announced that his clay court season will start in Madrid. Del Potro also announced that he will play in Rome and finish his clay court season at the second grand slam of the season at Roland Garros.

Last year Del Potro won seven matches on the European clay courts including a Quarter-Final performance in Rome and a third round performance at Roland Garros, where he lost in straight sets to Andy Murray. The Argentinian has won 21 out of his 25 matches this season and has accumulated the second most points on the ATP World Tour this season. He will hope to keep the good form going when he plays his first clay court match in Madrid in May.
