Nick Kyrgios has been forced to spend some time away from the court after his ongoing elbow injury flared up once again.

The world No.25 has returned back to Australia to undergo further treatment and rest. Kyrgios has been troubled by his right elbow throughout most of this season. During his country’s Davis Cup clash with Germany in February, he initially suffered the injury. Resulting in him missing the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Kyrgios returned to action last month by reaching the third round of the Miami Open. He then kicked-off his clay court campaign in Houston, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Bjorn Fratangelo in three sets.

“After returning home and consulting with medical staff in Australia I have been diagnosed with Posterior Impingement and Ulnar Nerve Irritation and I have been advised to stop playing through it,” Kyrgios wrote on Instagram.
“After thorough investigations and careful consideration I have had a corticosteroid injection to settle the pain and inflammation.
“Now, to maximise my recovery, I have to build the strength needed to compete at my best over the next month, ensuring I have strength in my elbow before returning.”

It is the latest problem to hit the injury-stricken player. Last year the Australian No.1 was also troubled by a hip injury that forced him to end his season early. Despite the setbacks, Kyrgios has still managed to achieve success on the tour. In January he defeated Ryan Harrison at the Brisbane International to win his fourth ATP title at the age of 22.

It is unclear as to how long the two-time grand slam quarter-finalist will be out of action for. He faces a race against time to be ready for the start of the French Open, which begins on May 27th. Prior to Paris, there are also two Masters 1000 events taking place in Madrid and Rome.

Kyrgios hasn’t missed the French Open since making his grand slam debut at the tournament back in 2013.
