American NextGen star Jared Donaldson has been fined for his outburst at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Donaldson, 21, was fined £4,300 after he shouted at chair umpire Arnaud Gabas after the Frenchman made an incorrect line call against Donaldson. A television image showed that whilst the ball had indeed struck the the sideline, it was beyond the service box and therefore out.
Donaldson asked for Gabas to come down from the chair to examine the mark then proceeded to shout at the umpire after the call went against him, before Donaldson eventually demanded that the supervisor be called.
Donaldson, ranked No.51 this week, eventually lost 6-3, 6-3 to Albert Ramos-Vinolas, and refused to shake the umpire’s hand.
Due to the Monte Carlo Masters being a clay event, the tournament does not feature the Hawkeye system, which would have allowed Donaldson to challenge the call at most other venues, thus potentially avoiding the confrontation.

15th seed Ramos-Vinolas will play the winner of the match between last week’s Houston finalist Tennys Sandgren and Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round.
