Former Wimbledon finalist, Eugenie Bouchard, has received yet another wildcard as she will play WTA Bogota from the 9th of April on outdoor clay courts.
The Canadian, who is now dropped to 114 in the world rankings, was announced a few days ago to appear at the clay court event in Colombia. However the way that the South American tournament announced the news was very bizarre and has come under a lot of criticism. Here is what they said via their Instagram post, which has now been deleted, “The Canadian Genie Bouchard is considered the sexiest tennis player in the World, she will be in Colombia for the WTA Bogotà Cup. Don’t lose the opportunity to meet this beautiful woman, we are waiting for you.”
As you can imagine the announcement has come under much criticism and has even been branded sexist by some members of the audience. It is no secret that Genie has received and still has some of her sponsorships due to the way she looks and not the level of tennis that she produces on the court. These sponsorships have led to the Canadian’s downfall as she has ultimately tumbled outside the top 100 players in the world.
Anyway Bouchard will be competing at the Bogota Cup in April alongside the likes of Daria Kasatkina, Magda Linette, Tatjana Maria and defending champion Francesca Schiavone.
