Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Thomaz Bellucci and Federico Delbonis reach the second round in Buenos Aires
Spain’s Guillermo Garcia Lopez beat Argentina’s Carlos Berloq 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 20 minutes to score his third win in their three head-to-head matches. The Spaniard dropped 12 points in 9 service games and fended off break points he faced in the final stages of the match. He converted three of the five break points he earned to clinch his second win of the 2018 season.
Garcia Lopez dropped just one point on serve and got a double break in the fifth and ninth games to win the opening set 6-3. He went up a break in the fourth game of the second set. Berloq earned four break points but Garcia Lopez saved all these chances and closed out the match in straight sets.
Thomaz Bellucci cruised past world number 276 Pedro Cachin 6-2 6-1 in just 57 minutes. The Brazilian qualifier dropped just 11 points in seven service games and never faced a break point. Bellucci broke twice in the first and seventh games and wrapped up the first set by holding his serve at love. In the second set Bellucci got three consecutive breaks to seal a comfortable win in less than one hour.
Federico Delbonis broke five times to beat Florian Mayer 7-6 (7-4) 6-4. The two-time Argentina Open quarter finalist will face either Gastao Elias or Roberto Carballes Baena, who surprisingly clinched his first ATP Tour title last week in Quito.
In other matches Argentina’s Guido Pella came back from one set down to beat Nicolas Kicker 2-6 6-4 6-4. Dusan Lajovic saw off Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis 7-6 (7-4) 6-1.
The Argentina Open is highlighted by two top-ten players Dominic Thiem and Pablo Carreno Busta and the third and fourth seeds Albert Ramos Vinolas and Fabio Fognini.
