Kerber has found her Mojo
After what was a Turbulent 2017 season, Angelique Kerber is starting to show signs that she is regaining her form. Now mentored by coach Wim Fissette, she displayed glimmers of her best tennis during the Hopman Cup. Dropping just one set in her four singles matches. Kerber enjoyed wins over Elise Mertens, Eugenie Bouchard, Daria Gavrilova and Belinda Bencic.
“I won all four matches and that gives me a lot of confidence for the next matches, for Sydney and for Melbourne,” Kerber reflected about her time in Perth.
“That was the plan to have a lot of matches before going into the Grand Slam and I just looking forward to taking that energy and how I played here to the next tournaments.”
Kerber herself attributes the surge in form to her new partnership with Fissette, who replaced Torben Beltz. Saying that she has more clarity about what to do when she is on the court.
“I feel better, it was a good decision. It’s different when you have another voice. We have been working together for four or five weeks. It feels good, we’ve changed some things and I’m very sure now what I need to do on court,” the 29-year-old explained.
The former world No.1 will play in the upcoming Sydney International, taking on Lucie Safarova in the first round.
