Former grand slam champion, Sam Stosur has proposed that the clay court season should be extended as she discussed Nadal’s criticism of hard courts.

After the Spaniard crashed out of the Australian Open Quarter-Finals to Marin Cilic, when he injured his hip in the final set, Nadal claimed that the ATP World Tour need to review their hard courts.

“Somebody who is running the tour should think a little bit about what’s going on. Too many people are getting injured,”  The World Number One claimed. “I don’t know if we keep playing on these very hard surfaces what’s going to happen in the future with our lives.”

Well the Spaniard may not be alone in his distain for hard courts as Australian tennis player and former US Open champion, Sam Stosur has proposed a new change to the calendar that could be beneficial to the 16 time grand slam champion.

The Australian has proposed that the clay court season should be extended, “A limited time on clay and even less on grass so. I’d like to see the clay court season a little bit longer.”

However the Aussie doesn’t think that hard courts are worse than what they were previously, “I’m sure Rafa loves playing on clay better than hard court too and mostly because of his body and everything else but I don’t know whether it’s worse than what it used to be.”

Rafael Nadal has won 10 of his grand slams on a clay court, so this move proposed by Stosur would be beneficial to the Spaniard. Unfortunately though the move isn’t feasible as there is already a four week clay court season leading up to Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal’s next tournament is in three weeks time in Acapulco.
