World No. 2 Roger Federer has revealed the amazing truth behind his prolonging tennis career.

36-year-old Federer extended his Grand Slam record to 19 after his triumphs at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2017. The Swiss superstar ended the year as the second best player in the world behind his long-time rival Rafael Nadal.

His comeback in 2017 was spectacular to say the least as he was simply outstanding throughout the year, especially against Nadal as he was successful in compiling a 4/0 win/loss record against the Spaniard.

The Basel native is the overwhelming favorite to win his sixth Australian Open title in Melbourne this January.

And he disclosed precisely how his training sessions have undergone a massive change in the past one year.

“Through the injury I sustained here in Australia a couple of years ago, my mindset has changed,” Federer said.

“I probably work less, with even more quality. So it gives me more time off.

“Essentially I’m working half days if you like, because there’s no point for me to put in all the mega hours anymore, because I know I have it in the vault, I have it there if need be.

“That’s why I think it was very important for me to prove to myself at the Australian Open this year – to win those three five setters that I had. (And also win) the two five-setters I had at the US Open.

“I won all the big matches when it came down to the crunch. I know I can do it, and it’s important to stay injury free.”

Federer is currently competing in the Hopman Cup in Perth and has already shown glimpses of his impressive form by dismantling Yuichi Sugita of Japan in straight sets.
