It has been a long time since tennis fans have been treated to a video game. Whether it was 2012’s Grand Slam Tennis 2 from EA in 2012, or Top Spin 4 from 2K Sports in 2011, the gaming world has been devoid of a tennis game for far too long.
Now it seems, we are getting two in one year. Tennis World Tour, developed by Breakpoint, is set for releases at some point in the Spring 2018. This is now set to be joined by AO Tennis, a game based on the season-opening grand slam in Melbourne, Australia.
A trailer for the new AO Tennis game was released, showing footage of Rafael Nafal entering Rod Laver Arena. The reveal did not however feature any actual game-play, instead showing only cut scenes in a teaser for tennis fans. AO Tennis is set for a January 16th releases in Australia and New Zealand, to take advantage of the tournament in the region at that time. Developers Big Ant Studios have yet to announce dates for the wider global market release. Big Ant Studios has a history of making popular sports games including recent rugby and cricket titles.
