
20 years old Kwon from South Korea won the tournament and earned a Wild Card into the Australian Open 2018.
The singles final of the AWP held in Zhuhai (China) shew a good level of tennis, but the home favourite 31 year-old Zhe Li could not withstand the inspired game of the top seed, who won 6-1 6-1 in 58 minutes. The South Korean was never down in the score and he never dropped his serve in the match, breaking his opponent five times. Li, who won three matches (vs Watanuki, Karimov and Zhang) en route to the final, will still earn a prize money of $2000.
Soon Woo Kwon, who is still looking for his first victory in a Grand Slam, will play in the main draw for the first time, making his first-ever appearance in Melbourne. He closes the AO Asia-Pacific Play-Offs with a record of 6-0 in sets played and a prize money of $2500 earned.
The 20 year-old from Sangju will have the chance to face off with the greatest players in the world, after his best-ever season in 2017, closed with a ranking of 168 and spent mostly on the Challenger Tour.
