Former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is eyeing a perfect return to action at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.
The Serbian, who hasn’t played a competitive match since losing to Tomas Berdych in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, will make his much anticipated comeback at the non-ATP affiliated exhibition tournament, scheduled to be held from December 28-30, 2017 at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Djokovic ended his season early to fix his long pending troubles with an elbow injury after failing to defend any of his four Grand Slam crowns in 2015 and 2016. With his triumph at the French Open in 2016, Djokovic became the first man to hold all four Majors at the same time since Rod Laver accomplished the feat in 1969.
However, his happiness was short lived as soon after he started to experience immense pain in his elbow which became severe with each passing day. It started to reflect on his results as one by one he lost all his Slam titles to his rivals on the ATP Tour.
His return is keenly awaited not just by the fans, but by the organizers of multiple events as he is still among the most popular figures on the men’s circuit.
Djokovic seemed extremely excited about his comeback.
“It is always an honor to play in Abu Dhabi and I can’t wait to get back on court again. This tournament will offer me the perfect opportunity to start my preparation for the Australian Open,” the 12-time Grand Slam champion said.
