
Former Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli has announced her decision to come out of retirement. The Frenchwoman confirmed the news to Eurosport UK.
Bartoli, a former French No. 1 shocked the tennis world with her Wimbledon triumph in 2013, upsetting the fan favorite Sabine Lisicki in the final. She has once again shocked the tennis fraternity with her announcement of a comeback to the WTA tour.
Bartoli, known for her unorthodox style of play is planning to play competitive tennis yet again for the first time in four and a half years at the Miami Open, a premier-5 tournament on the women’s tour that is scheduled to take place in the second half of March 2018.
Speaking to Eurosport, she said: “I tried to keep this secret for as long as possible, but it has become inevitable that I must tell the whole world.”
According to Bartoli, she is coming out of retirement because she wants to accomplish her three goals: “To win the Fed Cup, play at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and win one of the majors of the Grand Slam.”
