Four-time Wimbledon semifinalist Tim Henman reckons World No. 2 Roger Federer and 16-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal are two of the greatest athletes of all time.
Henman, a former World No. 4 hailed the Swiss and the Spaniard for their spectacular comebacks in 2017 in which the fans saw them winning all four Grand Slams. The Briton also tipped the superstar duo to do most of the damage once again at next month’s Australian Open in Melbourne.
Although, six-time Open champion Novak Djokovic and former World No. 1 Andy Murray will be back in action in Australia, Henman is firmly backing Nadal and Federer. According to Henman both Roger and Rafa will be able to overcome the stiff challenge of Novak and Andy to lift the trophy at Melbourne Park in January.
He told Express Sport: “Phenomenal. I think if you are surprised by Federer and Nadal, I think you are naive.
“Because now they are two of the greatest athletes in any sport of all time. They don’t go by normal rules.”
He added: “I think what Federer and Nadal achieved this year was absolutely incredible and I would not be the slightest bit surprised if they did it all again next year. That’s how good they are.
“The biggest challenge for both them is making sure they stay healthy.
“As we all know, that gets harder and harder as you get older. But the way they played this year, head and shoulders above the rest as number one and two in the world.
“And they go into the Australian Open as the favorites if they are 100 per cent healthy.”
