Federer, Agassi among 25 highest paid athletes of all-time

19-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and former World No. 1 Andre Agassi are among the highest paid athletes of all-time, according to American magazine Forbes.

Federer, who made a spectacular return to the men’s circuit in 2017 after a six-month injury layoff, winning his 5th Australian Open crown in January and a record 8th Wimbledon title in July has earned $675 million so far, making him the 15th highest earning athlete in history. The Swiss great and 8-time major winner Andre Agassi are the only tennis players in the coveted list, which features the top-25 richest sportspersons.

Agassi, who recently joined 12-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic’s team as a super coach has earned nearly $470 million till date. He currently has contracts with Nike and Lavazza. Additionally, Agassi adds a substantial amount to his income by playing exhibitions around the world.

As for the 36-year-old from Basel, out of his total purse of $675 million, $112 have been won in tournament prize money throughout his two-decade long career. The remaining amount has been earned through hefty endorsement deals and appearance fees he has received from participating in tournaments.

At present, Roger is the brand ambassador of 11 brands including Swiss chocolate maker Lindt with whom he signed a new $20 million deal this month. He also struck a deal with Barilla in May 2017.

The defending Australian Open champion is ahead of soccer great Lionel Messi (16th), and Filipino professional boxer Manny Pacquiao (20th), while he is behind five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo who is 12th on the list. NBA legend Michael Jordon is at the top of the list with an estimated worth of $1.85 billion, whereas Agassi occupies the 25th position with a net value of $470 million.
