Current World No. 1 and reigning French Open champion Rafael Nadal has revealed that 12-time Major winner Novak Djokovic is the toughest opponent he has ever faced.
In an interview to Spanish website cadenaser.com, Nadal acknowledged that his arch-rival, Swiss maestro Roger Federer is the best player in the history of tennis. However, the Majorcan asserted that Serbinator Djokovic posed a far greater challenge to his game than the 36-year-old from Basel.
“Well, it’s complicated,” Nadal said.
“What with titles and what he’s accomplished that says he’s the best in the history of our sport.”
“Is he the best I’ve played against? Well, maybe, yes, I’ve also played the great Djokovic, we’ve run into other really good players.”
Rafa added: “But it’d be unfair to say that Federer isn’t the best I’ve ever played against because the titles and his track record prove that to be the case. But at a technical level, when Djokovic has been at the top of his game, I have to say that I’ve been up against an invincible player.”
Nadal recently revealed that Federer has promised to bring his sons to the Rafa Nadal Academy.
“I would say that it is the most important professional and vital project of my career, it is very special for me. The academy is a training centre for athletes where they are given all the possible opportunities so that they can reach their maximum potential, and is equipped with the latest technology applied to sports.”
