Germany’s young tennis sensation Alexander Zverev thinks only current player could be considered faultless in the game.

The 20 year-old and his brother Mischa were speaking on ZDF Sports Radio.

Alexander Zverev: “There’s no one ‘perfect’ in tennis. Except maybe when we talk about Roger. You could say he’s perfect.”

Zverev has spoken a number of times about how much respect he has for the 36 year-old veteran, who has won 19 Grand Slam singles titles in his career, including two in 2017.

Zverev faced Federer three times in 2017. He was well beaten in Halle, winning just four games. However, he defeated Federer in the Montreal Masters final for his second title at that level.

Their final meeting of the season came at the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London. In a pulsating clash, Zverev and Federer traded blows through the first two sets before Federer ran away, dropping just one game in the third set to seal the win.

Zverev has also targeted stronger performances at Grand Slams next season. Despite his success on the ATP circuit, Zverev has never reached the quarter-finals of a Major. Zverev: “‘I’m the world no.4 , therefore I hope to do better at the Slams this year.’ That ranking should see Zverev enjoy a kinder draw in the Australian Open next year. At this year’s event he progressed to the third round before he was stopped by eventual finalist and year-end No.1 Rafael Nadal in five sets.
