17-year-old Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime, who has been invited by the great Roger Federer to train in the UAE, is looking forward to practicing with the Swiss superstar.
After a two-week vacation with his family in the Maldives, Federer has started his preparations for next year’s Australian Open. The 36-year-old will begin his new season by participating in the Hopman Cup in Perth before arriving in Melbourne for the defense of his Australian Open crown which he won in 2017 after beating current World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in an epic five-setter.
However, the 19-time Grand Slam winner is currently at his base in Dubai, where he is practicing under the watchful eyes of his coaches, Ivan Ljubicic and Severin Luthi. Auger-Aliassime received an invitation from Roger and is practicing with the former World No. 1 at present.
The 8-time Wimbledon champion is Auger-Aliassime’s idol and he is fully focused to learn a lot of things from Roger during his stay in Dubai.
“I have a lot of things to work on. It’s always great to learn from the best and it’s motivating to compare yourself to the top players in the world,” Auger-Aliassime said.
“It’s an opportunity I have to take advantage of, but the most important thing is that I have to prepare myself for the upcoming season.
“I admire everything he does on and off the court and the person that he is.
“It will be a good chance for me and my coaches to learn from what he does to have been so good for so long.”
