6) Australian Open: Roger Federer defeats Rafael Nadal in epic final

This was the best and most historically important match of the year. After vanquishing his main rival in a major final for the first time in nearly a decade, which included a fifth set comeback, Federer leaped like a little kid upon seeing the instant replay confirm his last shot did indeed catch the line. Roger would be brought to tears as he turned towards his jubilant team.

7) Sofia: Grigor Dimitrov wins the Sofia Open in his home country of Bulgaria

Just a few weeks after being defeated by Nadal in the Australian Open semifinals, Dimitrov was understandably emotional when winning the Sofia title in front of his home crowd, including friends and family.

8) Indian Wells: Elena Vesnina wins her biggest singles title

Vesnina was overcome with emotion after outlasting fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in an over three-hour dramatic final.

9) Indian Wells: Stan Wawrinka cries following the men’s final

Wawrinka got emotional while delivering his speech after the final, and caught his buddy Roger Federer laughing at him. Stan would say of Roger, “He’s laughing, he’s an asshole, but it’s OK,” which was followed by laughter from both men.

10) Fed Cup: Ilie Nastase’s verbal abuse brings Johanna Konta to tears at Fed Cup

This was one of the uglier incidents of the year, as Romanian captain Nastase directed offensive language towards his British opponents, as well as the chair umpire. Nastase was ejected from the event, but Konta was visibly shaken by Nastase’s actions to the point where play was suspended to allow her time to compose herself. Nastase was subsequently banned from Fed Cup for three years.
